Invitation to Band
Directors Dear
Marching Band Director,
We would like to invite you and your marching band to participate in the Ninth Annual "Albert Lea Festival of Bands" on Sunday, June 15, 2008 at 2:00 p.m.. This will be the ninth year that we have patterned our Band Festival after the excellent parade in Alexandria. This festival will only feature high school bands , no floats, cars, horses, or fire engines. Just some of the finest bands in Minnesota and the surrounding area. We will be awarding trophies and prize money for the top three bands in four classes, based upon school size. Outstanding Guard, Drum Major, Drum Line, Brass Section, and Wind Section will receive a trophy and this year, we will again be hiring an additional judge just for the caption awards. The Grand Champion award will go to the top score regardless of class and will be awarded a trophy as well as a cash prize. Also, the Grand Champion will be given a traveling flag to carry for the year and they will return to defend it the next year. Any band that wins the flag three times, will keep it after the third win. The prize structure for each class will be as follows: 1st place -
$500 2nd place -
$250 3rd place
$100
The Grand Champion will be
chosen from the first place winners in each class and will receive an
additional $500.00.A "Peoples Choice Award" will be awarded a trophy and a cash prize of $250. We understand that running a summer marching band program is an expensive proposition so in addition to the prize money, we are offering travel money. To help in our planning by encouraging an early response, we are offering $500.00 travel money to all accepted bands with responses postmarked or dated (On-line Registration) prior to May 1, 2008. We are planning to limit the Albert Lea Festival of Bands to twenty bands and we would like to balance all classes. If all slots have not been filled by May 1st, any accepted response with a postmark date after May 1, 2008 would receive $300.00 travel money. You may register on our web site by using our 2 part on-line registration form. Please complete both parts of our on-line registration. This on-line registration will be followed up by a personal phone call to verify the validity of your registration.
